The Center for Emergency Programs provides high quality initial training and continuing education at a variety of levels from basic first aid and CPR through EMT and continuing education for paramedics. The programs are divided into Professional Programs, for those looking to work as an EMT and Non-Professional program for those people who need the information for home, recreation or work. Classes may lead to a Bachelor Degree in Health Promotion and Education with emphasis in EMS or they can be taken for interest or professional preparation.

EMS

 Non-Professional Level Training.

First Aid
Classes are offered in first aid at a variety of levels from a four hour class focusing on what to do until the ambulance arrives through advanced first aid and first responder. For more information on these classes,

CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
CPR classes can focus on adult, child, or infant patients and include use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) when appropriate. CPR is often included in first aid classes, but can also be taken alone. For more information on these classes, click here.

EMS

 Professional Level Training

EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)
EMT classes are offered. These classes qualify students to take the Utah and/or national registry certification exams. Our classes follow the Department of Transportation (DOT) curriculum. For more information on these classes, click here.

CPR and ACLS
Cardiac care classes are offered in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the Health Care Provider level and in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). For more information on these classes, click here.

Wilderness Medicine
A wide variety of wilderness medicine classes are offered each year to meet the needs of individuals, employees, and responders who find themselves in remote or wilderness settings. Wilderness medicine classes are offered at the first aid, first responder, and EMT level. Some of these classes are taught on-campus by our staff and others are taught throughout the nation in collaboration with the Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS. For more information on these classes, click here.

Disaster Preparedness
We provide classes with emphasis in personal, community and corporate disaster preparedness. We also work with other departments on campus to offer a certificate in disaster preparedness. CERT training is available as a class or by contract. Courses can be customized to meet an organizations needs. For more information on these classes, click here.

Continuing Education and Recertification
National or State certification is offered with most of our classes. Recertification is available for CPR and First Aid through retaking all or part of the classes. Recertification classes usually run less time because students start with a knowledge base from their original classes. Continuing Education is offered for EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-P, and CERT. Continuing Education is offered in a variety of formats including in-person, web based, class room, seminars, conferences and self-study. State EMT practical testing and skills pass-off are available on a regular basis for recertitifying EMTs. For more information on these classes, click here.

Degree Programs
The Center for Emergency Programs offer both a BS and an MS degree through the Health Promotion and Education Department with emphasis on Emergency Medical Services. These are excellent programs for EMTs looking to make a career in response agencies such as the fire service, ambulance service, law enforcement and disaster planning. The BS degree is also an outstanding pre-healthcare degree such as pre-med, pre-physical therapy, pre-nursing, and others. This is a great degree for those wishing to work in a wilderness setting as counselors or guides, in land management, or resort settings. For more information on these classes, click here.
